RE: 2009-2010 GUILDEINES FOR DISTRICT SIMPLIFIED AND MATCHING GRANTS
Please share the following information with your club’ Foundation Chair and all club members.
As you know, change is in the wind, as our District has been approved for the Future Vision Plan. That change as it applies to grants, however, will not take place until next year. The following is information that your club will need to apply for 2009-2010 District Simplified Grants and Matching Grants.
District Simplified Grants (DSG’s)
- DSG’s will be evaluated and approved in the order that they are received. DSG’s will continue to be evaluated and approved until the funds designated for them by District Governor Ingrid are exhausted.
- District Designated Funds (DDF) in support of these grants will be disbursed to the approved clubs after final reports are received.
- Clubs may apply for $1,000-$2,500 in district designated funds.
- Criteria for awarding grants will include the club’s Foundation giving history as well as appropriateness of the grant in furthering the welfare of mankind and the objects of Rotary.
- Grants should be for local projects within District 7930.
When choosing District Simplified Grant projects, clubs are strongly urged to focus on the areas of peace and conflict prevention/resolution; disease prevention and treatment; water and sanitation; maternal and child health; basic education and literacy; and economic and community development.
Matching Grants
Facing the economic realities, the Trustees of the Rotary Foundation have indicated that, in all probability, applications received after July 15 will not be funded. The Trustees, however, have indicated that they will review funding if the economy turns around.
If your club has questions about the appropriateness of a grant, please contact Linda Doliber, Grants Sub-Committee Chair, at 617-791-2135 (cell) or 781-631-6938 (home). Guidelines and application forms can be found on the district website www.rotary7930.org. (click on the Foundation logo) or downloaded from the RI website www.rotary.org. Applications should be sent to Linda Doliber at 7 Westminster Rd., Marblehead, MA 01945. Because of the time-consuming nature of vetting multiple applications, only completed applications will be accepted for consideration.
Never has the motto, “The Future of Rotary is in Your Hands” been so true. These are challenging times, but we are confident that District 7930 Rotarians are up to the challenge!
EXAMPLES of SUCCESSFUL DISTRICT SIMPLIFIED GRANT PROJECTS:

Andover's Rotary Club worked with local youth -- including the high school's InterAct club -- to collect, recycle and refurbish used bicycles and to distribute the bikes and new helmets to families in Lawrence, MA.

Lawrence's Rotary Club built a specially-designed accessible playground stucture in the shape of a fire truck.
