District Governor, 2010-2011
Stephen O. May, (Steve), a member of the Rotary Club of North Reading has been selected, by the District Nominating Committee of Rotary District 7930, to serve as District Governor for 2010–2011. Steve joined North Reading Rotary in 2003 under the classification of Private Investigator.
Both his father and mother, although not Rotarians, were heavily involved in community service with his father being a Past Sovereign Grand Master of the International Order of Odd Fellows and his mother being a Past President of the Rebecca Assembly of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. His mother is currently the oldest surviving Past President so Steve was thrilled when asked to join Rotary.
He has been a member of the club’s Board of Directors since 2003, served as the club’s President Elect in 2005–2006, the club’s President in 2006–2007 and as the club’s Secretary in 2007–2008 and 2008–2009. Steve has completed the Rotary Leadership Institute training and has been an Assistant Governor for the past year. In addition to being the North Reading Club’s Secretary in 2008–2009, Steve will hold the following Rotary District 7930 positions in the coming years: District Governor Nominee & Assistant Governor Coordinator in 2008–2009, District Governor Elect in 2009–2010 and District Governor in 2010–2011.
In addition to serving Rotary, Steve was a member of the Board of Directors of the Licensed Private Detectives Association of Massachusetts, a member of the United States Association of Professional Investigators, New England Council of State Investigators, the National Council of Investigation and Security Services and a past member of the New England Chiefs of Police Association and a retired member of the Massachusetts Police Association. Steve is a Marine and served in Viet Nam. He is also a member of the Marine Corps Association and the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation.
Currently the Owner of the American Bureau of Investigation and a Tax Practitioner, Steve brings with him, in his leadership role in Rotary, not only his military background but his knowledge in experience gained with 32 years in Law Enforcement serving as a police officer, a Special Agent with the CID and retiring from a command position, as the New England Chief (District Commander) of the Conrail Police Department. He has attended Northeastern University, Penn State University and numerous Police academies and Supervisory, Command and management courses.
Steve is the father of two boys, his oldest currently in the military, and a grandfather of three.
