Veterans Celebrated at Foundation Event
Posted by Tim Kelley on Nov 15, 2025
On November 12, 2025, Rotarians from across District 7930 gather to honor military veterans at the PDG Bob Wood Memorial Heroes Celebration, held at the Andover Country Club. The event recognized and celebrated veterans from throughout the district for their service and dedication to their country.  Each Hero designated was presented with a Paul Harris Fellow recognition in appreciation for their service to our country.

It was a wonderful turnout to acknowledge and support our Heroes, and we were particularly inspired by the powerful speeches by our guests of honor BG Jack Hammond and Rotary International Director Chris Etienne with the touching story of Micaila Britto, the presence of her Service Dog, Rabbit.  We were privileged to have special guests from Rotary International Celeste Herbert and Mary Shackleton and PDG Bob Wood’s widow Susan Wood.

The evening’s featured speaker was Retired Brigadier General Jack Hammond, Executive Director of Home Base.  Home Base is a national nonprofit dedicated to healing the invisible wounds of war for Veterans of all eras, Service Members, Military Families and Families of the Fallen through world-class, direct clinical care, wellness, education and research, all at no cost to them, regardless of era of service, discharge status or geographical location.

February RLI Registration Now Open
Posted by Peter Majane on Oct 23, 2025
The mission of The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) North East America is to provide an educational opportunity for Rotarians as potential leaders. Each club President is asked annually to encourage Club members as potential Club leaders in the years ahead. Courses foster Rotary knowledge and leadership skills. It is hoped that these courses will also motivate the participants to be enthusiastic, creative and dedicated Rotarians.  Our District's next RLI is being offered virtually on February 24 & 26, 2026.  Mark your calendars now!  It is open to all Rotary members.

The faculty members are carefully selected by the Institute for their teaching abilities. They are drawn from all areas of the Rotary Districts. Many are present and past R.I. Directors, present and past District Governors, successful past Presidents and those with experience in special areas. If your Club cares about its future, it will want the best leadership possible. This is an outstanding opportunity for each Club to improve the Rotary knowledge of its key people, who will also be exposed to new ideas of leadership. The exchange of ideas with other experienced Rotarians alone makes the courses worthwhile.

PI Health Check
Posted by Tim Kelley on Nov 21, 2025
As we have ticked off the first few months of the Rotary year, it is an opportune time for clubs to conduct a Public Image health check.

A strong and vibrant Public Image is one of 2 proven key tactics for successful and growing clubs -- the other is a large number of service projects.  Effective Public Image helps expand your reach and artfully tell compelling stories that demonstrate Rotarians as people of action.   The Public Image Committee’s role is to help clubs to have a robust media and social media strategy, an up-to-date website and an engaging online presence in their local communities.

We suggest all clubs engage on social media to boost your Public Image.  Social media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, etc.) provides free opportunities to get your stories out there.  The various platforms can provide a direct way to push your news to the public.  Here are some tips to think about.

How can my club boost our Public Image?

Wakefield Honors Those Who Served
Posted by Amy Luckiewicz on Nov 14, 2025
What a wonderful week of celebrations as the Wakefield Rotary Club attended multiple celebrations of our nation's heroes. On Veterans Day, Rotarians Jay Curley (US Army, ret.), Barbara Worley, Joie Gerrish and Jim Fitzgerald attended the town's Veterans Day event and gave tribute to local heroes.

The following day, members of the club attended the retirement party for Rotarian Fire Chief Michael Sullivan. The third generation fire professional, Michael retired with over 41 years of service to the town.

Later that week, Barbara, President-Elect Paul Adams, Wendy Maguire, Jay Curley and his wife Annette, and Frank Fiorentino (US Army, ret.) and his wife Mary attended the District's Bob Wood Memorial Heroes' Celebration. The club mominated Wakefield Veteran Servies Director David A. Mangan (US Air Force, ret.) to be recognized.

It was truly a wonderful week of celebrating those who served.

Rockport Halloween Lunch
Posted by Janelle Favaloro on Oct 31, 2025
Our annual Halloween lunch meeting was a spirited success! More than half of our members joined in the fun by coming in costume, adding plenty of laughter and color to the day. We were delighted to welcome District Governor Pooja Singla, who arrived as Super Rotarian—cape and all!—along with our Assistant Governor Ron Block.

The room was filled with witches, cats, Mrs. Claus, Eeyore, a pirate, a roller skater, and many more creative looks. This festive gathering is just one of the many fun and fellowship-filled traditions that make our club so special throughout the year! Can you spot past District Governor Ingrid Brown?
Wakefield Hosts Fun Halloween Party
Posted by Amy Luckiewicz on Oct 29, 2025
The Wakefield Rotary Club hosted its Halloween party at a meeting this week. Co-hosts Jay Curley and Amy Luckiewicz led several haunted games and invited members to dress up in costumes.

Following the weekly lunch, Rotarians and guests gathered to play a Halloween Music Trivia game, a Halloween category-based party game, and more, all for fun Halloween-themed prizes. Members were encouraged to rotate partners on team games and sit with someone they may not know that well. Club Vice-President Paul Adams said, “We love to do service projects here, but we do take breaks for fun. It’s a time for us to work with each other, build friendships, and take a break from the daily hustle of the day.”

Newburyport's Crutches4Africa Project
Posted by Lindsay St. Pierre on Oct 29, 2025
On Friday, Oct 24th, in honor of World Polio Day, Newburyport Rotary loaded up a truck full of crutches, walkers, wheelchairs, canes, and other mobility aids generously donated by our community - all headed to Crutches4Africa, a nonprofit that helps improve mobility and dignity for people in developing countries.

This effort was made possible thanks to the incredible support from our neighbors, fellow Rotary Clubs, and local organizations who answered the call over the past few months. Your donations will soon travel across the world and make a real difference for individuals in need.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped us collect, sort, and deliver these items. We’re proud to be part of a global mission to help eradicate polio and support those affected by it.

And a big thank you the Rotary Club of Saco Maine for helping us coordinate and letting us collaborate with you.
Interact JumpStart TwoFive
Posted by Keith Harris on Oct 23, 2025
The District Interact Council is sponsoring “Jumpstart TwoFive,” a panel discussion designed for Rotary Advisors and Interact leaders for sharing best practices.

Sunday, November 2, from 2-4 pm at Stoneham Teen Center, 79 Central St, Stoneham.

Five Interact leaders and RYLA alum will share success stories and field questions. This event is designed to address the number one concern shared by Interact Advisors across the District - how can we help our kids regain their pre-Covid vibrancy?

See if you or your kids struggle with any of these:
My students are too busy - they can’t find time to meet;
They face too much competition from other clubs...can’t find any Rotarians to help me with Interact;
Our club seems to have lost its way - they just don’t seem to have enthusiasm anymore.

Regardless of what challenges you face, this event is a space for sharing and discovery. And everyone who comes will have something of value to bring as well, because each of you have a heart for these kids. Together we can lift them up and inject new energy into the program. Nothing chases away the weariness like renewed purpose. Admission is free to all!

Please email Keith Harris with questions or to sign up.

Reading Donates AED to Flint Library
Posted by Tim Kelley on Oct 24, 2025
At its dinner meeting at Austin Prep this week, Reading Rotary was pleased to welcome Sharon Kelleher, Library Director of North Reading’s Flint Memorial Library.  Sharon accepted a donation for the purchase of an automated external defibrillator (AED) for the library.  Flint Memorial is North Reading's public library.

Sharon had reached out to Rotarian Peter Majane seeking assistance with the project.  There was a pressing need to have an AED on the fourth floor especially because the elevator is not currently working and the additional stairs created greater potential for incidents requiring the device.  Pictured are President Amy Walsh, Peter Majane, and Library Director Sharon Kelleher.

Reading Rotary is proud to support the communities of both Reading and North Reading, continuing our mission of service above self.  Reading Rotary also sponsors the North Reading High School Interact Club and annually offers scholarships to North Reading graduating seniors.

A Rewarding Service Project
Posted by Jackie Rapisardi on Oct 27, 2025
In lieu of regular meeting last week, Beverly Rotary made 100 take home dinners for home bound Beverly folk. With the guidance of Brenda Mattos of Ellis Square Friends, a nutritious and delicious meal was prepared.

Our diners got Mexican seasoned rice. All rice seasonings came from Green Beverly Food diversion program. Corn on the cob that was donated by the American Legion in Middleton. We decided to make Mexican lasagna because we received a case of spinach wraps from our Stop & Shop donation. We prepared for 100 people, we served 96. And today’s win...we served 100 people at $1.06 a serving!!! Yup, Ellis Square Friends spent $106.00 to make that entire meal. So $49.75 of that was spent on Chicken. All we purchased was cheese, sour cream, Salsa and a 10lb bag of rice. And that is how we do it.

Thanks to Brenda, President Connor and all our volunteers who provided a dinner for those most under served #beverlyrotary #ellissquarefriends #district7930 #beverlyma #beverlymainstreets

Woburn Thanks Scouts
Posted by Brian Ouellette on Oct 24, 2025
Last week Woburn Rotary invited Assistant Scout Master Brian Grace and Scout Unit Commissioner Dave Frizzell of Woburn Scouts Pack 502 to speak about the work that the scouts do in the community and the leadership skills that are learned in the scouts. We were especially grateful for the work the scouts did for our Flags for Heroes program lead by past Rotary Club of Woburn President Bill Sullivan. The scouts helped to install the base mounts into the ground so the flags could fly in Ferullo Park in North Woburn. Rotary Club of Woburn President Danny Walbourne presented the scouts with a donation.
Wakefield Honors World Polio Day
Posted by Amy Luckiewicz on Oct 24, 2025
October 24th marks World Polio Day, a day to recognize the more than 35-year fight to end polio world-wide. This year, the Wakefield Rotary Club is again committing to helping eradicate the disease.

This week, Wakefield Rotarians recognized the past contributions of its members to the eradication efforts while re-committing to continue the efforts towards ending polio for good. Past Presidents Barbara Worley and Wendy Maguire reflected on the decades-long efforts from Wakefield Rotarians to combat polio via fundraising and education. Past President Jay Curley noted, “Although the world is so close to eradication, I know Rotarians will continue until polio is gone completely.”

According to Rotary’s polio educational website, “Rotary members have contributed more than $2.1 billion and countless volunteer hours to protect nearly 3 billion children in 122 countries from this paralyzing disease. Rotary’s advocacy efforts have played a role in decisions by governments to contribute more than $10 billion to the effort.”

Small Service Project Goes a Long Way
Posted by Jacki Rapisardi on Oct 16, 2025
The project discussed here is by one of newer members, Virginia Jones. What a positive experience!

As members of Rotary, we understand our purpose is to provide service that benefits our communities. I was, as all new members of the Beverly Club are, privileged to receive a $250 stipend for a service program. The stipend is to encourage new members to participate in community support by developing a service project beneficial to the Beverly community.

My first thought in undertaking this project was to draw upon my professional background as an RN or my personal strengths as a yoga teacher, Reiki Master and a Black Belt karate student. But I soon realized that the costs of renting a space in which to implement and advertise such a program would far exceed the $250.

    PolioPLUS Society Challenge
Posted by Pooja Singla on Oct 12, 2024
October 24 is World Polio Day.  It is a great time to join the PolioPLUS Society (PPS).

Originally started in our district by PDG Alexander Falk, PDG Joan Arsenault and PDG Ingrid Brown, the PPS now enters its fourth year in our district under the leadership of DG Pooja Singla and DRFC Anne Lewis, and we invite you all to join this year to help in our new PolioPlus Society Challenge that we have begun together with a dozen other districts in the Northeast.

    What is the PolioPlus Society?

In an effort to increase sustainable giving, the PolioPlus Society was formed to encourage Rotarians to commit to a minimum of $100 per year to the PolioPlus Fund until polio is eradicated from the face of the earth. Society members receive a special PolioPlus Society pin and a certificate.

Joining the PolioPlus Society is just one way Rotarians can show their support for Rotary’s largest initiative.

Importance of our Brand in Public Image
Posted by Tim Kelley on Oct 12, 2025
Why is Rotary Public Image and consistent Branding important?  Public Image is the opinion that people have of an organization based on its actions.

Rotarians do so much amazing work in their communities: we build houses for homeless; we plant trees to protect the shores from destruction; organize educational camps for low-income families; we fight Polio; we volunteer at senior homes; and so much more.  If the majority of public is not aware of the great job Rotarians do in their communities how can we expect them to join and support us in our efforts?

Rotary’s public image is shaped by what and how we talk about Rotary, how we present what we do in our communities, and how often. If we are not telling those Rotary’s stories to the public, their impressions are often made up of half-truths or not made up at all. It’s weakening our brand and harming our public image.

Strong Rotary’s public image motivates public to support our efforts and projects; inspires to get involved; engages new members, volunteers, and partners; attracts new donors; and positively distinguishes Rotary from other servicing opportunities.
