The Rotary Club of Chelsea held a special evening meeting to celebrate Past President Allan I. Alpert’s 50 years as a Chelsea Rotarian.  Joining Rotary in January 1973, Allan was the youngest member to join Rotary, three months short of his 24th birthday.  After serving as Sergeant-at-Arms and Vice President, he was elected Club President, serving for the 1977–1978 Rotary year as the youngest President in the Club’s or District’s history.  Coincidently, during Allan’s tenure as president, Chelsea Rotary celebrated its 50th anniversary at the former Caruso’s Diplomat in Saugus with over four hundred guests attending.

Allan, a three-time Paul Harris Fellow, was joined at the meeting by his wife Laraine, a Paul Harris Award recipient, son, daughter and two grandchildren, while two other sons and families joined us on Zoom.

Pictured here are President Rick Gopen and celebration chair, PP Juan Gallego, presenting Allan with a citation from the City of Chelsea celebrating his 50 years as a Chelsea Rotarian and his service to the community.  The Club also presented Allan with a plaque and gavel commemorating his fifty years as a Rotarian.
