The Wakefield Rotary Club is collecting new school supplies for students in Wakefield and the Dominican Republic. The public is invited to donate two new school supply items. One item will stay local and given to the Wakefield Boys and Girls Club. The second item will be donated to a school/orphanage in the Dominican Republic.
Wakefield Rotary Club Secretary Suzanne Bowering explained, “We know kids here in Wakefield need school supplies and the Boys and Girls Club is positioned to know which kids need the most. We’re thrilled to partner with them to distribute the supplies locally.” She added, “And as part of Rotary’s mission abroad, we know that kids in the Dominican Republic also need supplies, so we’re asking people to donate to those kids too. This way, one item is kept local, and one item is going abroad.”

The supplies earmarked for the Dominican will be hand-delivered by Bowering and Club Past President Amy Luckiewicz in two large suitcases in August. The pair hope to collect a hundred pounds of supplies to go abroad. “It’s the suitcase limit,” Bowering explained.
In order to distribute before the school year begins, all items should be dropped off to Holiday Travel (402 Main Street, Wakefield) by Monday, August 13th.
