RYLA 2026 was an Incredible Success
Posted by Christina Harris on May 26, 2026

94 students and more than 25 adults came together for a weekend filled with growth, connection, leadership, and unforgettable experiences. The impact was real, and the feedback from our 2026 survey says it all:

“Being a leader is hard work, but it is one of the most rewarding things a person could be — RYLA is absolutely the best place to learn to lead.”

A heartfelt thank you to our Rotary Clubs, RYLA coordinators, Lead Team, Family Leaders/Advisors, Facilitators, Camp Rotary, and everyone who helped make this weekend possible — especially the Melrose Rotary Club for generously covering the cost of our Ropes Instructors, along with all of our amazing club and individual donors.

These students are AMAZING — we can’t wait to see what they do with all they learned!  Thank you for helping create an experience that will stay with them for a lifetime!

Marblehead Harbor Supports Environmentally Friendly Lawns
Posted by Judith Black on Jun 02, 2026
When the Rotary Club of Marblehead Harbor heard about the biodiversity, community, and earth health benefits of switching from curated lawns to different models, they took action.

TRANSITION YOUR LAWN: PLANT HOPE is an initiative that offers 5 models for taking your traditional lawn from a patch of ground that (considering watering, mowing, added chemical, and nutrients) creates more greenhouse gases than it absorbs, to working earth that generates a haven for water absorption, biodiversity, native plants, and in one model, hyper nutritious food for family, neighbors, and community.

They supporting the creation of a web site: www.transitionyourlawn.org, and the originator of the program has been presenting to other clubs throughout the region.  Another example of Rotarians at work!

District Charters 1st New Club in Over 20 Years
Posted by Dan Ellard on May 28, 2026
Please welcome the District 7930 E-Club, which was officially chartered as part of our District by Rotary International on April 24, 2026.

The District 7930 E-Club takes the title of the most recently chartered club in our district from the Burlington Breakfast Club, which was chartered on October 18, 2005.

The District E-club began as an eight-member satellite club, hosted by the Belle Isle Rotary, and grew quickly to fifteen members in order to charter and become a separate club. Special thanks are due to PDG Tom Hankard for his encouragement and guidance through the satellite process, and to the Belle Isle Rotary for their support.

The focus of the District E-Club is to help Rotary Clubs and other organizations within the District with their events and projects. The Club has already helped with the Reading Street Faire, the Taste of the North Shore (organized by the Rotary Club of Peabody), and the Spring Cleanup of the Arlington Town Gardens (organized by the Friends of the Robbins Town Gardens). Members of the Club also participated in the Build a Bed event organized by the Lynnfield Rotary, and the 2026 District 7930 RYLA.

Gloucester Celebrates Paul Harris Fellows
Posted by Steve Kaity on May 28, 2026
The Gloucester Rotary has named Dr. Michael Sarraf and Serena Lowe as Paul Harris Fellows, the prestigious award named after the Chicago lawyer who founded the Rotary movement in 1905. Sarraf was selected by a Club committee of previous recipients of the award, while Lowe was chosen by members of the Gloucester High School Interact Club, the very active group of Junior Rotarians. Sarraf and Lowe will be honored at the Paul Harris Distinguished Service Award Dinner on June 10, 2026, at Cruiseport Gloucester, located at 6 Rowe Square in downtown Gloucester. The event will begin with a social hour at 5:30 pm, followed by dinner at 6:30 pm.

Michael Sarraf graduated from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 2000. After a general practice residency in St. Joseph Hospital, Sarraf acquired Mina Dental Associates in Gloucester in 2004. He joined the Gloucester Rotary in 2005 and served on the Board of Directors and as the President 2022-2023. Dr. Mike, as he’s known in the Club, has received several state and regional awards in recognition of his business prowess and service to the Rotary cause. Mike and his wife live in Middleton with their two children.

Peabody Packs Meals of Hope
Posted by Laura Meisenhelter on May 28, 2026
The number of households that are food insecure has doubled since the pandemic according to a report released in April 2026 by Mass General Brigham and the Greater Boston Food Bank. That is 40% of all Massachusetts households (over 1 million!) with 25% regularly missing meals or going hungry.

The Rotary Club of Peabody has supported local food programs for decades: they provide and serve one meal each month at the local food pantry, Haven from Hunger. They provide weekend meals once a month to a local church that distributes to people who do not have access to food on the weekend, and the club supports the No Child Goes Hungry in Peabody, a program that delivers free groceries to food insecure families with children in the school district. Therefore, it made sense for the Club to support another meals program, Meals of Hope.

With the approval of the Peabody Rotary Club, I was recently appointed to the unique position of Rotarian Health Director. My mission is to help educate Rotarians in our club, and potentially throughout District 7930, about health-related issues that have not received sufficient public information or have been subjects of confusion or misinformation among the general public.

Some Initial Information:
All meetings would be virtual via Zoom on a weekday evening.
Meeting frequency would be quarterly or by consensus of the committee.
Committee members would be invited to suggest health-related topics in which they have
knowledge and/or interest and that would potentially benefit other Rotarians and their families.
Method(s) of disseminating health information would be decided by the committee.

If one of your club members is interested in joining a district-wide health committee please have her or him contact me at steve_fine@comcast.net without obligation.

District 7930 is Proud to Announce a New Major Donor
Posted by Anne Lewis on May 27, 2026
District 7930 is proud to announce a new Major Donor to the Rotary Foundation, Gail Ralston from the Andover club. Gail’s own acknowledgement of the award says it best. “I can’t tell you how much this means to me! In a relatively short period of time, Rotary has become a second family. I value the way it has supported me through service, camaraderie and - in a very real way – THE OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE TO THE WORLD.

Way back in the 1930s, my father received a college scholarship on behalf of the Rotary Club of Richmond, Indiana! His first name was also Paul, his birthdate was the same as Paul Harris and his/our family home was just a mile from where Mr. Harris had made his family home in the south area of Chicago. It must have been ordained that one day I would find my own way to a Rotary Club!”

Gail’s unwavering dedication to service and her generosity as a Major Donor ensure that our collective impact will continue to grow, changing lives for years to come. Congratulations, Gail!
Citation For Meritorious Service Award
Posted by Anne Lewis on May 18, 2026
The Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service recognizes individual Rotarians and Rotaractors who have demonstrated outstanding service to the Foundation such as through their involvement in Foundation committees, grants or programs. The Foundation's programs are how members transform donations into sustainable projects that change people's lives.
Each year, districts can nominate one member to honor their commitment, enthusiasm and passion for these ideals. This year our nominee was selected by the review committee. It is with great pleasure that District 7930, on behalf of the Rotary Foundation Trustees, has awarded Joan Kelly Arsenault with the Citation for Meritorious Service. Joan's enthusiastic service to the Foundation will ensure the continued success of its vital Rotary programs.

Congratulations, Joan, for receiving this prestigious honor and thank you for all that you do for the Foundation.

Applications Open: July 1, 2026
Applications Close: August 31, 2026
Approval Basis: First Come, First Served (until funds are exhausted)

Our funding parameters have also changed for the upcoming year for either a local or international grant:

Maximum Reimbursement: $2000

(3) Your club must be officially Grant Qualified by two members having taken the Grant Qualification Seminar. Please mark your calendars to attend the District Assembly on June 3 to take the qualification course. If you miss the assembly, the course and a short quiz will be available on our district website.

Wakefield Rotarians Honor Mother’s Day
Posted by Amy Luckiewicz on May 08, 2026
This week, the Wakefield Rotary Club completed its project to honor Mother’s Day. Immediately following one of its regular luncheons, the club compiled 33 “treat kits” for mothers living at Centerboard’s Melrose, Lynn and Chelsea locations. The kits included necessities, candy and pampering supplies. Wakefield Rotarian Jill McWilliam explained, “It was important to us that each kit also had a personal note of inspiration. These women have had a difficult time, and we wanted to cheer them on.”

According to Centerboard’s website, “Centerboard provides holistic support to adults and youth in Greater Lynn and on the North Shore facing unimaginable difficulties such as housing insecurity, trauma, exploitation, domestic violence, and substance use—offering not just housing but also a wide range of services designed to help each person heal, gain stability, and pursue a safe and stable life.”
